Your exterior siding is protected by a wood, masonry, or manufactured siding that protects your home or business from the elements. There are several things that you can do to ensure that your exterior continues to look good and remain healthy for years to come.

Regular Inspections

Routine inspections of the exterior of your building are key in keeping them fully functional and avoiding costly repairs. You should walk around the perimeter and do a thorough inspection at least once or advisably twice a year. Doing this allows you catch any problems such as damage caused by water or termites, dry rot, loose or damaged siding, or fading or peeling. When you catch damage early, you can quickly and inexpensively correct the problem before major trouble has time to form.

Cleaning

Cleaning your exterior surface once or twice a year will help preserve your surface and remove any light soil, grime and pollution which can damage the siding. You can use soap and warm water to effectively clean the surface. Start washing from the bottom up as this helps to prevent streaking. Then rinse beginning at the top and moving down using a water hose and a scrub brush to remove any dirt you may have missed.

You can effectively treat any mildew you find by applying household bleach to the areas and then rinsing with clean water.
